Nita is a schoolgirl who is different from her peers: she is a student with special needs, unable to move independently and in need of inclusive education. Nita wants to get a full education, but it is not available to her because the school does not fit Nita's needs. Like Nita, many other people may need a similar kind of education, they may have physical, mental and social-emotional disorders, but we must not forget that all people are equal and all people have the right to a full education.

 Let’s talk about what inclusive education means.

What does inclusive education mean?

In order to understand what inclusive education is, we need to know what the word inclusion means.

Inclusion means involvement. Inclusive education - is all in one classroom -  children  with special educational needs with their peers at  general education schools.

The following are considered as students with special educational needs:

• Student with disabilities and hindered developmental;

• Student with social-emotional problems;

• A talented child;

A child with a disability has one or more developmental delays. It may include:

  •
  • Physical disorders (movement limitation, limb, vision and hearing defects, speech problems);

  • Mental disorders (disorders of the central nervous system, brain trauma, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, learning disabilities, etc.);
  • Socio-emotional disorders (behavioral disorders, emotional disorders, attention deficit, hyperactivity, social disorders, communication problems);

    The goal of inclusive education is for all children, regardless of the differences between them, to study in one space, no matter what kind of disability or peculiarity they have. It is possible  a  student to be disabled, gifted, from an ethnic minority, of color, with visual and hearing impairments, to have difficulty with moving, but to get an education with peers, to be involved in school life.
  •

Adolescents with special needs should be actively participating  in public life. All children should be involved as much as possible in the educational process and in their relationships with others. Therefore, the goal of inclusive education is to promote the education of children with special educational needs; Their social integration; Identifying and developing their interests and capabilities; Helping children to develop their spiritual world, to protect  their own opinion, rights and personal dignity.

Society has different attitudes towards people with disabilities, which include: fear, avoidance, excessive care, compassion, resentment, superficial tolerance. All this is a barrier for people with disabilities in terms of relations with the society.

What should be the environment where the student can receive inclusive education?

 In order for inclusive education to be effective, it is necessary to meet several conditions: there must be a friendly environment; Have a caring attitude towards each student, based on their needs; Equal education conditions should be provided for all; Each student should be able to participate in school activities.
